German shipyard Lürssen, founded in 1875 by Friedrich Lürssen, is a globally renowned leader in building fully custom superyachts. Specialising in the construction of superyachts ranging from 60 to over 180 metres in length, Lürssen successfully leverages 150 years of experience in shipbuilding to deliver some of the industry’s most innovative and unique custom superyachts. Lürssen is credited with introducing the world’s first motorboat in 1886, REMS, powered by a Daimler engine. Over the decades, the shipyard has gone from strength to strength, transitioning from building wooden racing boats to constructing some of the world’s largest and most complex superyachts. A family-owned business now spanning four generations, the shipyard has launched over 13,000 vessels to date. Operating out of multiple state-of-the-art facilities across northern Germany, the shipyard integrates eco-conscious technologies, such as emissions-reducing silencers and waste heat recovery systems, with traditional craftsmanship to deliver one-of-a-kind superyachts. The shipyard’s fleet includes some of the world’s most iconic vessels, such as the 180-metre Azzam, the 156-metre Dilbar, and the 126-metre Octopus. According to data in the SYT iQ, Lürssen currently counts 92 superyachts in its global fleet, and 29 of the top 100 yachts in the world were built by Lürssen.
