With roots dating back to 1973, Oyster Yachts is known for crafting British luxury sailing yachts. Known for designing, building, and refitting the world’s finest liveaboard sailboats, Oyster has cemented its reputation over decades. With a lineage rooted in over 20 million bluewater sailing miles and more than 100 sailing circumnavigations, Oyster’s range of 50 ft to 90 ft ocean cruising yachts are unmatched in their category for luxury, comfort, and safety. The inception of Oyster Yachts dates back to Richard Matthews’ founding of Oyster Marine, which began with the commissioning of the 32ft UFO II, a prototype three-quarter tonner sailing yacht designed by Holman and Pye and built by Landamores. UFO II’s success on the racing circuit, including a win at the Royal Yacht Squadron’s de Maas Cup in 1974, set the stage for the brand’s growth. Following the introduction of a 46 ft cruising ketch in 1978, the brand expanded its fleet with designs by Rob Humphreys, growing to include sailboats from 56ft to 125ft. In 2000, the builder changed hands in ownership, with the company being acquired by private equity firms. In 2018, British tech entrepreneur Richard Hadida took over, bringing renewed energy and a commitment to uphold Oyster’s founding principles of superior construction and build quality. Despite challenges, including a temporary setback in 2018, Oyster Yachts has emerged stronger, boasting a record order book and a vision to enhance and redefine its model range while staying true to its heritage of luxury sailing.
