Christensen Yachts, formerly based in Vancouver, Washington, was one of America’s leading superyacht builders, specialising in the construction of custom composite superyachts ranging from 30 to over 50 metres in length. Founded in 1985 by Dave Christensen, who sought to build the perfect yacht after retiring from a successful career in the construction industry, Christensen partnered with Westport Shipyard to manufacture a yacht that met his exacting standards. Launching his yacht in 1986, the result was a yacht so precise and exceptionally built that he began attracting multiple offers.
Christensen Yachts Fleet
Incorporating Christensen Shipyards in 1986, Christensen oversaw the shipyard for 25 years, solidifying its reputation before retiring in 2008, and CEO Joe Foggia assumed leadership. The shipyard briefly entered receivership in 2015, but was rescued by chairman Henry Luken, who faithfully honoured outstanding contracts and transitioned production to a state-of-the-art Tennessee facility designed to build yachts up to nearly 70 metres. Christensen Yachts distinguished itself through its vertically integrated approach and commitment to composite fibreglass construction, utilising advanced vacuum infusion techniques that produced yachts seven times stronger than steel whilst maintaining optimal weight ratios. The shipyard’s legacy includes notable launches such as the 59.68m Casino Royale (2008), the 48.77m Odessa (2009), and the award-winning Chasseur, which received recognition at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Through its collaboration with Ocean Alexander Yachts, Christensen also delivered the 36.9-metre Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht in 2012, representing the first in a planned series of tri-deck luxury superyachts.
