PALMER JOHNSON YACHTS FOR SALE
Palmer Johnson is an American shipyard that leverages more than 100 years of experience building semi-custom and custom superyachts. Founded in 1918 by boat builders Hans Johnson and Herman Gmack under the name Sturgeon Bay Boat Works, the shipyard first started out constructing wooden commercial fishing boats, rowing skiffs, and small yachts. In 1928, Hans’ son, Palmer Johnson, took over the shipyard and began building quality wooden sailing yachts. During WWII, the shipyard switched to constructing wooden aircraft rescue and supply boats, and once the war was over, the yard resumed constructing yachts, adding aluminium motor yachts and racing sailing yachts to its offering.
Palmer Johnson Yachts Fleet
Officially renaming the company after Palmer in 1956, the shipyard started building more models, ranging between 19 and 60 metres in length. Among Palmer Johnson’s most notable deliveries is Fortuna, a 30.2-metre superyacht built for King Juan Carlos of Spain in 1979, which held the title of fastest yacht of her time with a top speed of 46 knots. Another standout delivery is Pearl (ex La Baronessa), a 59.5-metre superyacht delivered in 1998 and one of the largest all-aluminium superyachts ever built in the USA. Palmer Johnson changed ownership many times throughout the years, and the shipyard ceased all US production in 2017. It reportedly relocated its production facilities to the Netherlands, selling the original and historic shipyard in Sturgeon Bay to Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding. Today, Palmer Johnson specializes in the construction of high-performance, all-aluminium sports yachts, measuring up to 72 metres in length. Currently offering three distinct series, these include the Sport, the SuperSport, and the SportYacht series. Based out of Monaco, the shipyard continues to announce new projects, with 84 yachts currently in its global fleet according to data from SYT IQ.
